: for those of you who have already mastered the art of the first message, this app is for you. a first is a game changer, and although some of the money sites will promise you free memberships, you can usually expect a free member tag with a lot of spam. the messages on freehookupapps are curated by the people, so you dont need to worry about any of the gussying up that youll do at places like okcupid.

realtalk. this is a site where the users have a say in what’s posted. you can make a profile, answer questions, and search for dates in a user-friendly manner. this dating app has all the features of tinder and hinge rolled into one, making it my favorite for those who want to skip the awkwardness of dating and hookups and get right into the nitty gritty.

hinge. hinge is the dating app that feels like the real-life version of your mom’s dog-eared reading of the friendzone rulebook. there are 3 types of users: dates, friends, and irresistible people. dates on hinge look for dates with a photo, matches who show interest in their bio, and messages that are below the game-changing one-night-stand threshold. friends list those you go out with or you should go out with, you can message everyone, and you can add a photo. the irresistible people section seems to be the most up-to-date with guys who arent already friends and women who like to boink. our review of hinge is coming soon!

t may be a good location-based app for some, but it’s not for me. bumble is perhaps the best of the crowd and sits somewhere between tinder, okcupid, and coffee meets bagel. users can swipe to the left or right on the feed, express interest in someone, and it requires users to send the first message. bumble is best used for hookups, but it’s a good platform for one-off dates too.
