Drawing Layer Mapping and the User Interface
Like other Autodesk programs, AutoCAD includes both a default and custom drawing workspace.
In the default workspace, the Drafting Table is viewed in three-dimensional mode, and layers are not enabled. Layers are viewed in their icon-based “layers” panel and control how the objects in a drawing can be edited.
This default workspace is shown in the right side of the figure above. Note that layers are not enabled.
Unlike other Autodesk programs, a user can easily switch between the default and custom workspace. The process is as follows:
Start AutoCAD and choose Edit → Preferences → Workspace. Select “Use default workspace” or “Show Custom workspace”. Click OK.
