Adobe Photoshop Basics
There are a lot of Photoshop tutorials available, and some of them are great, but there are others that are pretty basic and make beginners wonder what they’ve been missing out on. To help you get the most out of Photoshop, we’ve put together some tutorials that teach the most basic and important skills every Photoshop user must master. We’ll start with choosing the correct image size.
Choose the Correct Image Size
I’ve seen Photoshop tutorials that will show you how to select an image of a certain resolution and size by using “Scale” and “Align.” That process works, but it’s more efficient to control the image size in the layer properties dialog box.
The image needs to be resized and altered at one time; that is why you should control it in Photoshop rather than aligning it with other layers and then resizing it. Keep in mind that a lot of the tutorials you’ll see will be done in Photoshop 5 or Photoshop 6, but if you’re using Photoshop 7 or later, you’ll have control over the layers’ visibility. In Photoshop 7, you can drag the layers around like a painting or a collage and see what happens. When you are finished and your layers are in the right order, you can close all the layers and save the image. Remember that layers are behind the layers below them and you can move them around to see what happens. If you aren’t sure where the layers are, choose Edit > Layer > Flatten All. Then, you can see all the layers in one flat layer. You may have a grid there, but if you turn it off, it will disappear. You may have a bunch of boxes there with names; if so, you can edit those to find the layers you want to work on. When you move the layers around, you may need to rename them.
For a two-page tutorial that shows how to resize an image from the Layers panel, click here.
To resize a single layer, click and drag the layer out to its edge, and then you’ll see a line. When you release the mouse, you’ll see an arrow that you can drag to the edge of the canvas. The arrow lets you drag a slider across the canvas to resize. If you aren’t sure where the sides are, you can use the grid on the canvas, like you can in a traditional drawing program.
When you click the arrow to resize the image, you’ll see the image

Why learn Photoshop?
Whether you are a designer or an amateur photographer, you will use or need Photoshop. Photoshop is a very powerful tool for photographers. It is an easy-to-use tool, if you are familiar with computers and basic design software.
In this series we’ll dive into the 101 of Photoshop, from the most basic skills, to the more advanced and deeper ones. The goal of this series is to empower you with a professional toolkit. With enough knowledge and practice, you can tackle any graphic design project that comes your way. You won’t be stuck in design when something pops up, you will be able to make the best of the situation.
Where to learn Photoshop?
I would recommend taking the Photoshop course from Lynda.com because the teaching is crisp and to-the-point. They also cover both the desktop and web versions.
If you are a beginner photographer with limited skills in Adobe Photoshop, the Hands-On Learning is great for you. It will teach you how to use Photoshop and make the most of it through projects. I also recommend it for seasoned photographers as they may have learned some of these things before but are not sure how to use it.
The Pixels Academy Photoshop courses on CreateSpace are great for both beginners and advanced photographers. They teach you how to make the most of Photoshop through real-world projects. If you’re a beginner, check out the Photoshop videos on the Learn tab or the Basics sub-tab. If you’re an advanced photographer, check out the top-notch Photoshop training videos at the Advanced section.
For more information, there is an entire section dedicated to Photoshop learning.
DesignCrowd has a lot of Photoshop training videos, which are priced at $5 per video. They cover how to do basic tasks in Photoshop, how to use Photoshop for graphic design and how to edit images, using Photoshop for web design and even making logos.
DesignCrowd’s ‘Photoshop Fundamentals’ course is a great place to learn Photoshop in a fun and engaging manner.
The Photographers & Designers Course on lynda.com is a great resource to learn Photoshop. It has two parts. Part 1 is for photographers and Part 2 is for designers. I also recommend checking out the free Photoshop courses on the Learn tab of their website.

“We’ve been very apprehensive about this,” they wrote. “We felt that the last president, who was very narrow-minded and particularly because he was a Christian, wasn’t too outspoken in his comments about any of the scientific issues that the church and certainly the church’s theory of creation has been skeptical of.”
The letter said the pope’s views on evolution were “not too entrenched,” and that Francis has “taken a slow, measured approach to these issues.”
“We felt like this was our best opportunity to express our concerns,” the letter read.
Some scientists have expressed concern that Francis’s statements could cause a rift with other Catholics and result in confusion about what the church’s position is on the issue. That’s a concern the letter writers seemed to agree with — and seemed to expect might result from the pope’s upcoming visit to the United States.
“With Francis, frankly, we do have some concern. He’s not a scientific relativist, he’s a religious relativist,” said Peter Hotez, a scientist who specializes in tropical disease and vaccinology and who is a founding member of the Climate Change and Health Initiative. “It is possible, as some in the scientific community have already said, that he will redefine the teaching of the church and its position on evolution and climate change.”
Hotez said he has been at odds with bishops in his own church over this. Scientists who work for the church, he said, are often tasked with promoting religious views about creationism on the church’s behalf.
“We don’t want to be lobbying the church to take positions on science, we’re science scholars and teachers,” said Hotez, who will be on a panel of experts that will accompany the pope’s visit to the United States. “My concern is with the bishops. They are aggressively politicizing science. They are campaigning for the church to take an anti-vaccination position, which I think is an abuse.”
Hotez said the recent letter did not come as a surprise. Previous letters were written by the New York-based Jesuit publication America, and his comments reflected those of the scientists

Stabilization of trismus through dynamic splinting.
The majority of patients with facial trauma require treatment by the general dentistry practitioner. Their comprehensive treatment plan, followed by an active patient support program, is a crucial part of the long-term treatment of facial trauma. However, the prolonged symptom duration and inhibition from scars and other factors may make the treatment of facial trauma difficult and frustrating. This case report describes a patient who was treated using a dynamic splinting technique to control the pain, swelling, and trismus, and reduce impairment of function. This technique provides great benefit for patients who have experienced facial trauma and require no more than restricted oral function.1. Field of the Invention
This invention relates to a single-layer or multilayer anti-reflective coating, on a substrate such as a semiconductor wafer, that improves the resolution of microlithography used in making integrated circuits.
2. Description of the Related Art
The art of integrated circuit fabrication includes, among other processing operations, forming light-sensitive photoresist coatings on the surface of a semiconductor wafer. A light-exposure operation is then used to print circuit patterns in the photoresist layer. A subsequent development step is used to remove either the exposed or the unexposed portions of the photoresist layer. This process leaves the circuit patterns in the photoresist layer. The photoresist patterns can then be used in an etching operation to form conductive or insulative traces and layers, such as to connect individual integrated circuits on the wafer.
A problem encountered in the field of microlithography is that light reflected from the substrate being processed tends to degrade the sharpness of the printed images. The reflective properties of the photoresist material determine the degree of reflection from the substrate. Some of the reflected light also interferes with the projection lens. This makes the reflected light appear as an image of the reticle, lowering the resolution of the reticle pattern and the resolution of the pattern printed on the wafer. A technique for overcoming this problem of reflected light has been disclosed in U.S. Pat. No. 5,477,892, issued to El-Damanhoury et al. on Dec. 19, 1995, where a multilayer anti-reflective coating is used to reduce the light that is reflected from the substrate.
This anti-reflective coating has three layers, a bottom layer that is the same as or very similar
