Pulkit Agrawal from Ahmedabad, India asks: “Organic link building, according to me is one of the most difficult tasks for SEOs of SMEs. Can you please list 5 effective ways of organic link building other than building great content?”

  1. No matter how good contents your website has about a specific topic, no one cares enough about what you’re writing to link to you. So ranking your site will then be determined mostly on who has the best tricks and money to produce top quality links. I have consulted successful IM or SEO people and they themselves spend $500-1000 on linkbuilding alone. Links are simply not an indicator of the quality of your site.

  2. What a fantastic video! This answered a lot of questions. What does everyone think about the demise of guest blogging? Is it really dead… or are just the spammy ones gone?

  3. You are so full of it. There is no such thing as organic links for 90% of us out here. People don't hardly ever link to other websites and the ones that do are nofollow thanks to you guys.

  4. In 2014 link building model has greatly changed. Most types of websites have receded into the background. Today social link developmnet is considered the safest link buinding (Rankwinz)

  5. This is all great information on how to build content… but content isn't enough to get links. You need targeted traffic to read these posts. I know I'm not the only one wondering: Matt, what are currently the best ways to promote content among a targeted audience?

  6. Although dated now, there are still some pretty good nuggets here that are still valid today. People are more likely to link to your properties naturally if the quality of what you're putting out is useful, well thought out and presented in an easily digestible format. Videos are an excellent way to engage with your audience and promote your brand at the same time too.

  7. If building great content is such a good way to get links,  how comes when I see a website with really great content I have no urge to link to it?   KFC have a really great website, I especially love their page about chicken, but I'm not going to link to it.

  8. http://mashable.com/ gets 80.000.000 (80 millions) visitors each month and they do no any original research at all. Everything they do is just copy articles from another sites and rewrite them to avoid the duplicate content penalty. This proves that you can earn like $300.000 a month from AdSense by doing content scrapping.

  9. Hi Pulkit and thank you for a great comprehensive explanation of link building. You mentioned making sure Google can access to your pages but I am not sure of how to do this. I had received something in early days which mentioned Google had diffiiculty accessing my pages ( I had chosen blog template) and I took it up with Wix and they said there was no problem. How do I check this for myself?
